What solar energy is and how it can help you

Solar energy is energy harnesses the renewable energy from the sun and can be used to power various devices in your house or even your whole home. This technology offers us the chance to actively do our part to helping the environment and to save significant money on power along the way.

How expensive are solar panels?

Solar panels are traditionally rather expensive to purchase and install in your home, although they have been made cheaper in some places across the globe through government rebates offered as they become increasingly aware of the environmental impact of renewable energy. However the good news is that with today’s availability of technology and knowhow you can now do it yourself (DIY) in a inexpensive and simple manner and reap the same benefits.

What do I need to build my own solar panels?

The good news is that the material that you require is not too difficult to source online and with more and more company’s realising the value and consumer demand in this market, things are only going to get easier. You will need: Solar plates, photovoltaic cells, semi conductor block, converter, conductor wires and a battery

How do I build my own DIY Solar Panel?

Just follow these simple steps and you will be well on your way. Naturally make sure that you put your solar panel in a place which gets a generous serving of direct sunlight every day, otherwise it defeats the purpose! Also please make sure that you tell other people in your life about how easy it is to DIY, the quicker we can spread the word, the greater impact that we can have on Mother Nature.

Step 1

The most important material that you will need to source is your solar panel, please keep in mind that I recommend that is 12 volts or potentially higher depending on your power requirements. The best places to look are on eBay or perhaps at your local marina as solar power are rather prevalent in the boating world. It is important, however to be cautious to get the correct type of panel, and as we go further into the required material and the solar panels construction, check out the guide that helped me get started in my own DIY solar panels by visiting http://www.diygreensolarpanels.com/products/do-it-your-self-diy/solar-panels

Step 2

The second step is to find a battery to store the energy that you create. The type of battery that you require is a deep cell rechargeable battery which, make sure it is a lead or acid variety. Try to keep the size to around 12 Volts at bigger is not always better when and you can continue to recharge it when you us e the power that you generate.

Step 3

With this DIY project we are dealing with electricity so safety is a concern that we need to keep in the forefront of our minds. This is why I recommend that you purchase a battery box which is of a suitable size to house your battery, this is especially important if there are young children in your household.

Step 4

I wanted to run household appliances using my self generated power, so I recommend that you purchase an inverter and a DC meter. These Items are essential to convert the DC power into AC which can run your average household items I now power my TV solely from my solar charged battery.

Step 5

We now have all the materials that we require to make our first bit of solar power, all we have to do is put it together. First we want to attach the meter and DC input to the top of the battery box. Then we connect the battery to the meter using an insulated wire, please be careful to connect the first wire to the negative input. The last step is to connect the solar panel and the DC input to the battery.

Step 6

We have now taken care of all the difficult things, we can now go out and test our new creation. Position your solar panel in a place which draws the most amount of direct sunlight, it should only take 12 hours for a 12 volt battery to charge fully. When I first attempted this project, I found some of the concepts and the practical tasks difficult to grasp. Details of a really useful resource that helped me can be found at http://www.diygreensolarpanels.com, there is also a really handy eBook there which details 125 ways to “Go Green and save”. The comprehensive video course that this website discusses has helped me to really ramp up my solar power efforts around the home and even to completely eliminate my power bill.

Good luck with your DIY solar panel project

A zero point magnetic power generator is a generator that uses magnets to utilize energy. There are many people that would find this to be hard to believe but it is a reality. A magnet has energy but does not require an energy input. When you try to connect the same polls together on a magnet, you will feel the force repelling them. This is how a magnetic generator utilizes magnets to produce energy Read the rest of this entry »
